John Corben is a Lieutenant in the United States Military under General Lane. He has feelings for Lois Lane but she doesn't feel the same way about him. When he failed to get her attention, he decided to become a subject for the Steel Soldier project so that he could defeat Superman and impress her.
After being joined to the Metal-Zero suit, he was taken over by the Collector of Worlds. He confronted Lois and fought Superman, thinking that he could impress Lois by defeating him. The suit was built to fight Superman and he had to be stopped by John Henry Irons. Irons had designed the suit and built in a fail-safe USB port. While Irons fought Corben, he inserted a USB drive that contained a virus, which shut Corben's systems down. After being defeated, the Collector withdrew from the suit. When the Collector took a chunk of Metropolis for his collection, Corben was inside.
